film noir - research into props

For our production we wish to leave the story a mystery. So, we wanted to use a way of typing that would revela a name called 'candi'. for this to fit into the time period we have thought bout using inc and and quil to write it on a piece of paper. as you can see below.

however we believe we are able to retreive a type writer which will look more pratical for a detective as it looks more professional. this is a type writer.
as you can see it would be very heavy and would fill the table much more. This would mean that it would suit the scene much better. However it may be hard to get unless our contact actually allows us to use it.
another thing is that we want the actor to look stressed. way we could do this is by giving the actor alchol to drink in the scene so that he looks like he is trying to drain away his sorrows. also we could give him cigarettes to give him as a sign of trying to relax. also ciggarettes were very popular in the 1960s and heavy advertised so would also fit into the conventions of film noirs.
for the table, we would need a heavy oak table as normal tables would look to modern. however getting hold of one of these and transporting this would be very hard. if we are unable to obtain one we would have to use a table cover or to use lots of props to cover the table so it fits in with the time period.
