Recconnoitre

Recce is short for Recconnoitre. It basically means going to a location and surveying it before filimg. this means that you check for certain things to find out if the area is suitable to film. You find the advantages and disadvantages of the area and see away around it. Youn don't just look at one location but several so you find the best place. you would need to think about:
  • do you need a permit or not to film in the location?
  • is there any rest room facilities or room to put some in?
    • this is because you could be spending alot of time at a destination and the cast and staff need to rest some time.
  • parking availability?
  • is there surrounding noices?
    • as some noices will affect the shot
  • light accomidation?
    • so that the camera can see clearly and make a good shot
  • friendliness of surrounding
  • safety check
    • so that your staff and actors are safe from dangers and you are able to find away around it.
  • is the land owned?
    •  it is is then you will have to gain permission and if it will disturb them.
  • accessability
    • you need easy access for all the equipment and staff to get to the location.
  • time restrictions
    • if there are specific times you can't be at a location.
  • photographs
    • you NEED photographs to make a successful recce.

"What role would I like to take on?

The role i would like to take on is Director.

Directors are responsible for overseeing creative aspects of a film under the film producer. They often develop the vision for a film and carry the vision out, deciding how the film should look, in other words they make their vison come to life. They are responsible for turning the script into a sequence of shots. They also direct what tone it should have and what an audience should gain from the cinematic experience. Film directors are responsible for deciding camera angles, lens effects and lighting with the help of the director of photography, and set design with the production designer. They will often take part in hiring key crew members. They coordinate the actors moves, or blocking, and also may be involved in the writing, financing, and editing of a film.

Film director - (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Film_director) (04/10/2011)

I am a type of person who likes to take control of a situation and doesn't like people doing it there way instead of mine. This way I can do the shots I like and make it how I believe it will make it best. This would mean that my own vision will be put in place and I know how I want it to be. I don't mind people giving idea's but I always have a variety of ideas myself.

What knowledge or experience do I need to be a good director?

  • An effective Director looks at the big picture.

  • A good Director has a keen sense of priorities.

  • The caring Director provides growth opportunities for the staff.

  • A judicious Director thinks before he/she acts.

  • An efficient Director values teamwork.

  • The outstanding Director constantly evaluates itself and keeps improving.

    My role within Chunk Productions

When first starting the production we took into consideration who had taken media for GCSE so we knew what experience we have had. From this I put myself forward for director and took the part. Within my job description, I firstly set out what we had to do to make the chase scene not boring, so we added the comedy element into it. When starting the videoing I made sure that the actors were in the right positions and did the correct speech. If the camera man had done a bad job of a shot or it didn't work out I would retake the shot or find away around it to make it right. I made sure that the locations were suitable for the chase scene taking into consideration health and safety. As we had 1hour to film, I had to take control on how long we would take on each shot so that we could finish in time. I told the camera man, were to put the camera and what shot we would want to take. Also I told the camera man to get permission from the specific areas. Jake and Sam did the editing but I watched over them to make sure they didn't miss anything out and how i thought we could improve it.
